Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi held a phone call today with newly elected Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, during which he expressed Egypt’s firm rejection of Iran’s recent missile strike targeting Qatar, describing it as a violation of regional sovereignty.
According to Presidential Spokesman Ambassador Mohamed El-Shennawy, President El-Sisi reaffirmed Egypt’s principled stance against any actions that undermine the sovereignty of other nations, especially fellow Arab and Islamic states. He stressed the importance of respecting international law and regional stability.
During the call, El-Sisi also welcomed the announcement of a ceasefire agreement between Iran and Israel, underlining the critical need to maintain and reinforce the deal. He warned that recent tensions had pushed the region to the brink of widespread violence and chaos.
The spokesman added that President El-Sisi briefed his Iranian counterpart on Egypt’s diplomatic efforts in recent days, including consultations with key international stakeholders such as the United States, aimed at containing the escalation and restoring calm across the region.
The two leaders agreed that the current situation requires a shift toward comprehensive political solutions, stressing the need to address regional security issues through inclusive dialogue. They also emphasized the urgent resumption of negotiations over Iran’s nuclear programme with Washington and called for serious efforts to address nuclear non-proliferation concerns and work toward a WMD-free Middle East.
President Pezeshkian, for his part, thanked President El-Sisi for Egypt’s balanced and responsible approach, praising Cairo’s regional role and efforts to preserve peace and prevent bloodshed among all parties.
