Egypt's Tourism Minister, UNESCO Regional Director Discuss Cooperation

Ahmed Issa, the Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, hosted Nuria Sanz, the Director of the UNESCO Regional Office in Cairo, along with her accompanying delegation, at the ministry's headquarters in the New Administrative Capital.

The meeting aimed to discuss ways to strengthen cooperation between the ministry and the organization in the field of archaeological work, training, and capacity building.

Also present at the meeting was Ambassador Khaled Tharwat, the Minister's Advisor for International Foreign Relations, and the General Supervisor of the General Directorate of International Relations and Agreements, along with several representatives from the UNESCO office in Cairo.

At the beginning of the meeting, Issa welcomed Sanz and her accompanying delegation, praising the existing cooperation between Egypt and the UNESCO Regional Office in Cairo.

He highlighted that this office is the first regional office of the organization established outside the French capital, Paris.

He affirmed full readiness to enhance this cooperation, anticipating broader prospects for collaboration in light of the strong relations between the two sides in the field of heritage preservation and human heritage.

During the meeting, they reviewed the latest developments in several ongoing cooperation projects between the two parties.

These projects include the restoration and maintenance project of the wall paintings at the tomb of Amenhotep III in the Western Bank of Luxor, scheduled to open later this year.

Additionally, they discussed the development of the museum display scenario for the Nubia Museum in Aswan, as well as improving the display means, guiding panels, and interpretative explanations, aiming to enhance the tourist experience.
