Egypt has been elected to a two-year term in the African Peace and Security Council (PSC), starting from April 2024 until March 2026.
In a statement issued on Thursday evening by Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Egypt was unanimously elected during the African Union summit meetings in February 2024, as a representative of the North African region.
The statement emphasized that this election is a reflection of the appreciation and trust that the sister countries of the North African region, as well as all countries of the continent, have in Cairo's efforts and commitment towards promoting peace, security, and stability in Africa.
In the election, Egypt secured 44 out of 46 votes from the member states of the African Union who are entitled to vote. This election is a testament to the confidence of African countries in Egypt's capabilities in this crucial area.
Egypt has been a successive member of the African Peace and Security Council, with its most recent membership being from 2020-2022.
