Egypt's Grand Mufti Dr. Shawki Allam sent a cable of congratulations to President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, on the occasion of the Islamic (Hijri) new year, 1444.
In a statement, the Mufti called on Muslims around the world to benefit from the lessons of the Prophet’s migration and apply them in their lives and society.
On this day, Muslims celebrate 1443 years since Islam’s Prophet Muhammad -peace be upon him- migrated from Mecca to Medina, to save Muslims from torture by leaders of Quraish, an Arab tribe Muhammad was part of, and to protect the proselytism of Islam from being eradicated by disbelievers at that time.
