Egypt's FM Receives Italian Stefania Craxi

Egypt's Minister of Foreign Affairs Sameh Shoukry received on Thursday an Italian parliamentary delegation led by Stefania Craxi, chairwoman of the Italian Senate's Defence and Foreign Affairs Committee.

According to Ahmed Abu Zeid, the spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Shoukry praised the common denominators between the two countries in light of the historical and cultural relations between them, said Abu Zeid.

Shoukry emphasized during the visit that the two nations have great links because traditionally they have been on the same side of Meditarian history.

Mr. Sameh Shoukry also emphasized the importance of building on the momentum of the bilateral relations during the recent period, noting that the visit of the Italian delegation to Cairo follows his visit to Rome and the recent meeting of Italy's Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani with President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi.

The spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs added that the meeting discussed the activities that can advance and strengthen bilateral cooperation between the two countries in the political, economic, energy, regional issues, and other fields, based on the common interests of both countries.

Earlier, Craxi said: "Our visit to Cairo aims to conduct a new constructive dialogue with Egyptian MPs and Senators amid the many political and economic challenges which are currently facing the Mediterranean region, on top of which the negative impact of the war in Ukraine,

"Italy firmly believes in the necessity of reaching the truth and justice about the death of Italian student Giulio Regeni in Cairo in 2016," she added.
