On Monday, Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs and COP27 President-Designate Sameh Shoukry held a meeting with the UN Framework Convention on Climate (UNFCCC) Executive Secretary Patricia during his current visit to the German city of Bonn.
In a statement, the spokesman of the Foreign Ministry, Ahmed Hafez, tweeted that the meeting comes as part of current preparations for Egypt’s hosting of the UN Climate Conference COP27 as well as enhancing international action to mitigate the impact of climate change.
It is worthy to mention that Egypt’s President Abdel Fatah El-Sisi said previously: “Climate change is the most difficult challenge facing the world with its negative impact on various aspects of life,” adding that seas have absorbed 90 percent of the heat caused by global warming at an accelerated rate since the 1970s.
This contributed to the decline in the oxygen percentage in oceans and the deterioration of marine life, the president added.
