Badr Abdel-Aty, Egypt's Ambassador to the European Union, held a meeting with the European Commissioner for Agriculture Janusz Wojciechowski, in the presence of the Deputy Head of Mission and Head of the Trade Office in Brussels.

The meeting dealt with ways to enhance cooperation between Egypt and the European Union in the field of agriculture, management and treatment of water resources, given the great importance that Egypt attaches to these sectors in the context of addressing challenges related to food security and achieving sustainable development for agricultural development projects.

Abdel-Aty affirmed Egypt’s interest in cooperating with the European Union in the field of training and capacity building by providing training programs for workers in the field of agriculture, especially supporting small farmers in rural areas, as well as cooperating in agricultural projects, developing agricultural technology, as well as exchanging technical expertise to develop agricultural systems.

The Egyptian ambassador in Brussels also touched on the initiative for A Decent Life, which aims to develop the neediest villages in Egypt, whether in terms of irrigation or agriculture methods, health, education and infrastructure.

During the meeting, the repercussions of the Ukrainian crisis in the field of food security, in Egypt and the African continent, were discussed in detail, especially in light of the low quantities supplied of foodstuffs, especially wheat, and their significantly high prices, especially since Egypt is the largest importer of wheat in the world.

The European Commissioner for Agriculture expressed his aspiration to visit Egypt next November to attend the upcoming COP27 climate summit, as well as to discuss ways to enhance cooperation between the two sides.
