President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi met with Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen today in Copenhagen as part of his state visit to Denmark. The leaders engaged in extensive discussions with their respective delegations and signed a declaration of strategic partnership between Egypt and Denmark, alongside several memoranda of understanding across various fields.
During a joint press conference, President El-Sisi addressed the outcomes of the discussions, expressing his profound happiness to be in the historic and beautiful city of Copenhagen, marking his first visit to Northern Europe since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries in 1922.
President El-Sisi commended the warm reception and generous hospitality he received, reflecting Denmark's sincere desire to enhance the bilateral partnership and fruitful cooperation based on mutual respect and understanding.
"The meetings with Prime Minister Frederiksen were marked by a mutual understanding to elevate our bilateral relations across political, economic, investment, cultural, and other areas," El-Sisi said. This was exemplified by the signing of the joint declaration to upgrade relations to a strategic partnership level, the launch of the Egyptian-Danish Business Council, and several MOUs.
The discussions also emphasized the importance of implementing the joint declaration's initiatives to advance cooperation in sectors such as maritime transport, green transformation, health, scientific research, investment, agriculture, tourism, telecommunications, IT, and efforts against illegal immigration, terrorism, poverty, and desertification.
President El-Sisi also highlighted regional and international issues of mutual interest, including the Palestinian issue, emphasizing Egypt's efforts to immediately halt the war in Gaza. He underlined the necessity of joint efforts to prevent a regional escalation and the importance of establishing a sovereign Palestinian state based on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.
The situation in Lebanon, Syria, Sudan, the Red Sea security, and the Ukrainian crisis were also discussed, with a consensus on the need for diplomatic solutions respecting state sovereignty, institutions, and combating terrorism within these states.
In closing, President El-Sisi thanked Prime Minister Frederiksen for the invitation and expressed his anticipation to welcome her in Egypt to further strengthen the longstanding friendship between their nations and peoples.
