Freddy Elbaiady, a member of the Egyptian Parliament said that the statements of Ashraf Sobhi, Minister of Youth and Sports denounced the poor performance of the national football team on the back of the defeat against Ethiopia in the team’s second match during the AFCON qualifiers.

Elbaiady said in an urgent statement submitted to Hanafi Jabali, Speaker of the House, to direct it to Sobhi, that the problem is not the defeat of the Egyptian team, but rather the bad performance of the Pharaohs against the Ethiopian team, stressing that the team will loose its reputation and esteem at all African, regional and international levels

The MP confirmed that the Sports Minister’s statements exposed the Football Association and confirmed its weakness, trembling and must be dismissed, stressing the solution begins with the departure of the association and the administrative staff, with their being brought to trial on charges of wasting public money.

He demanded that the minister of Youth and Sports be summoned to the House to announce the real reasons behind the Football Association’s selection of Ihab Galal to be the coach of the national team, when he does not have any qualifications to coach the team, requiring a future vision for developing football in Egypt.

"Egypt, which claimed the AFCON title the most, is now an easy catch against any  competitor due to the deterioration and mismanagement of the game by the Football Association," he concluded.
