Egyptian Fishing Cup kicked off in Egypt, Red Sea, from 16 to 19 October.
The Egyptian Cup is the first tournament to be held in a catch and release system, and it qualifies for the international IGFA tournament that will be held in February 2025 in El Gouna, Red Sea.
15 teams participates in the tournament, 60 players are competing for the championship title, and the tournament will be held over 4 days, on October 16, Captain meeting to announce the instructions of the tournament and respond to all fishermen's inquiries. The tournament kicks off on October 17 and the fishing and overnight stay will continue until return on October 19.
The tournament prizes include the Best Top Team Award for the top three places, with the most points, as well as the Best Top Angler Award for the top three places.
Mohamed Amer, CEO El Gouna, expressed his happiness that hosting the first sports fishing tournament according to the latest rules "fishing", as part of preparations to host the 2028 Fishing World Cup.
Mohamed Kaddah, President of the Egyptian Angling Federation, stressed the importance of the tournament, which contributes significantly to activating marine tourism and encouraging the preservation of fish wealth, in addition to consolidating the rules of ethical fishing of the International Organization IGFA, and stressed that the tournament includes fish numbering (tagging), which occurs for the first time in cooperation with the Ministry of Environment to preserve biodiversity, track fish and conduct research to find out the actual number of fish in the Red Sea.
Ahmed Metkis, Director of the tournament, stressed the importance of the joint protocol signed with the Ministry of Environment, the Egyptian Angling Federation and Ethical Anglers, which contributed to the use of the fish numbering system for the first time and the establishment of the first championship with the fishing and release system, and thanked the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the Ministry of Environment and the Fish Resources Authority.
