The Egyptian otolaryngologist Dr. Sameh Kamel won the election to lead the UN Major Group for Children and Youth, according to a statement released by the Ministry of Youth and Sports through the Nasser Fellowship for International Leadership Program (MGCY).

Young people can actively participate in some UN procedures through the UN General Assembly's designated and self-organized Major Group for Children and Youth.

In order to ensure that young people's right to meaningful involvement is realised, it serves as a bridge between them and the UN system. This is accomplished through involving young people from both official and informal groups in the creation, execution, monitoring, follow-up, and assessment of sustainable development policies at all levels.

It was established in 1992 as a result of Agenda 21. Additionally, through a number of GA resolutions, bilateral agreements, and/or terms of reference with particular UN institutions, it acquires and strengthens its mandates.
