Egyptian Ambassador to Canada Meets Head of Senate Foreign Relations Committee

Egyptian ambassador to Canada Ahmed Abu Zeid met, via Videoconference, on Friday, with Senator Peter Boim, Chairman of the Foreign Relations and International Trade Committee of the Canadian Senate, as part of the communication that the Egyptian ambassador makes with various decision-making circles in Canada, to strengthen the Egyptian-Canadian bilateral relations in all fields, and to explain the Egyptian vision on the regional issues.

Ambassador Abu Zeid said in a statement after the meeting, that he was keen at the beginning of the meeting to congratulate Senator "Boim" on assuming the chairmanship of this important committee in the Canadian Senate, reviewing the course of relations between the two countries during the past two years, which witnessed great momentum that was reflected  in the important meeting that brought the Canadian Prime Minister with the President of the Republic on the sidelines of the African Union summit last year in Addis Ababa, in addition to holding the tenth round of political consultations between the two foreign ministries last October, and the formation of the Egyptian-Canadian Parliamentary Friendship Group, as well as the boom in trade and economic relations, as Egypt became the first  trading partner for Canada in Africa.

Ambassador Abu Zeid added that he was keen to answer the Senator’s questions regarding Egypt's evaluation of a number of regional issues, reviewing various aspects of the Egyptian vision towards them, in addition to addressing Egypt's efforts in the field of combating terrorism, explaining that the terrorism is a global phenomenon that requires unifying International efforts, exchanging experiences and cooperation to combat the radical and extremist ideology in societies.

The Egyptian ambassador pointed out to the Canadian official’s interest and eagerness to support Canadian-Egyptian relations, they also discussed the Canadian participation in the activities of the second edition of the Aswan Forum for Sustainable Peace and Development, scheduled to be held virtually this year, in light of Canada's position as a strategic partner of the forum.

Ambassador Abu Zeid concluded his remarks by saying that the coming stage will witness more interaction and cooperation at the parliamentary level between the two countries, especially after the formation of the Egyptian Parliament committees, and the establishment of the first Egyptian-Canadian Parliamentary Friendship Group.

At the end of the meeting, the Egyptian ambassador invited the chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee of the Canadian Senate to visit Egypt with a delegation of the committee members as soon as possible.
