House President Annita Demetriou received Monday the Ambassador of Egypt Amr Mohsen Hamza, on the occasion of the completion of his tenure on the island, who reaffirmed, in turn, the position of the Egyptian authorities regarding the Cyprus issue.

She thanked the Ambassador for the cordial cooperation between the Embassy of Egypt and the Parliament, during his tenure, and for his substantial contribution to the further strengthening of relations between the two countries, especially at the parliamentary level.

The House President expressed her deep appreciation for the stance of the Egyptian authorities regarding the Cyprus problem and the efforts to solve it, based on the relevant UN Resolutions and for Egypt's long-term support to Cyprus, in the context of international and regional organizations.

Demetriou also praised Egypt’s role as a leading force in the Arab world, in efforts to end the war and achieve peace and stability in the Middle East.

She also underlined the importance of continuing and further strengthening the cooperation between Cyprus and Egypt to address common challenges, including migration, following an agreement Egypt signed with the EU.

The Egyptian Ambassador praised the friendly relations between Egypt and Cyprus and expressed his gratitude for the excellent cooperation with the Parliament during his term.

Hamza reaffirmed the position of the Egyptian authorities regarding the Cyprus issue and assured the President of the Parliament of the continuation of this solidarity and support.

He also expressed appreciation for the support provided by Cyprus to Egypt to strengthen its dialogue and cooperation with the EU.
