Egypt's Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, Mr. Ahmed Issa, welcomed Minister of the Popular Authority for Culture of Venezuela, Ernesto Villegas Poljak, and his delegation at the Ministry's headquarters in the New Administrative Capital (NAC) during their visit to Egypt.
The meeting aimed to discuss ways to enhance cooperation between the two countries in the field of archaeological work.
The Ministers discussed various ways to collaborate, including exchanging experiences and training in museums, restoration, and archaeological excavations. They also explored the possibility of forming a joint scientific archaeological mission between the two countries to participate in archaeological excavations in Egypt.
Furthermore, they discussed ways to recover stolen and illegally smuggled antiquities outside the country, as well as how to combat illicit trafficking in cultural property. The Venezuelan Minister expressed his country's desire to return artifacts belonging to the ancient Egyptian civilization located in the Museum of Art in Caracas to Egypt.
The Ministers also discussed the possibility of operating a direct flight between Caracas and Cairo to increase tourist traffic between the two countries.
Both Ministers expressed their keenness to promote greater cooperation between their countries in various fields, especially tourism and antiquities.
