Egypt U-23 Lose 2-1 to Australia in WAFF Tournament by Penalties

The Egyptian national U-23 football team, the Olympic team, lost their game against Australia 2-1 by penalties in the WAFF friendly tournament on Saturday.

The full time of the game ended with a 1-1 draw. Mohamed Shehata scored the game's only Egyptian goal before both teams moved to penalties. 

The friendly tournament is taking place in KSA, and 8 teams are taking part in the tournament including UAE, KSA, Egypt, and Australia.

The Olympic team started their campaign in the tournament by defeating UAE 1-0 as part of the team's preparations for the 2024 Paris Games.

The winners of each game will qualify for the semi-finals of the tournament.

KSA will face Jordan, S. Korea will face Thailand, and Australia will face Iraq.

The participation of the Egyptian Olympic team comes as part of the preparation for the next Olympic Games in Paris.

The Egyptian U-23 football team (the Olympic team), officially, qualified for Paris Olympic Games in 2024 after defeating Guinea 1-0 in the U-23 AFCON semi-final.

In the previous edition, Egypt managed to reach the Olympic Games 2020, after capturing the title of 2019 U-23 AFCON that was hosted in Egypt.
