Ahmed El-Kurdi, Professor of Liver and Gastroenterology at Cairo University said during the celebration of World Hepatitis Day in Cairo, that next September, Egypt will receive a certificate from the World Health Organization (WHO), confirming that it is free of hepatitis C.

It is worth noting that the certificate is the first certificate granted to a country after its victory over the virus, despite it was ranked among the highest inflicted by the deadly virus in the world.

He added, on World Hepatitis Day, that the presidential initiative was the cornerstone of eradicating the hepatitis C virus.

El-Kurdi added that within that initiative, doctors worked to treat patients infected with the C virus associated with the human immunodeficiency virus "AIDS", explaining that there is a specialized center for the treatment of this category of patients.

He explained that the Egyptian doctors treated 4 million people during the presidential initiative, known as "100 Million Health" after the survey that was conducted on 62 million Egyptians, and Egyptian medicines were relied upon to treat the patients.

He indicated that without political support and political will, Egypt would not have reached this success at all.
