The Minister of Health Dr Hala Zayed announced that Egypt will receive a new patch of AstraZeneca vaccine through COVID-19 Vaccines Global Access (COVAX), media agencies reported on Sunday.
"The shipment includes 546, 400 doses, and part of it arrived on Saturday. Currently, the received doses will be tested by the Ministry of Health to make sure of their safety and efficiency," Dr Khaled Megahed, the ministry's spokesperson, said.
Megahed added that all received AstraZeneca shots will be distributed to the central vaccination spots across Egypt to assist the vaccination rollout in the state.
Last week, Egypt received the first shipment of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine on Thursday.
The highly anticipated shipment consisted of 261,000 doses. The doses will be preserved inside 61 special refrigerators at all vaccination spots that dedicated to Egyptians who will travel abroad.
In the same context, Egypt will also receive a new shipment of the Moderna vaccine in the upcoming few days.
It is expected that the country will receive 5.2 million doses of ‘Pfizer’ and ‘Moderna’ COVID-19.
It is worth mentioning that the state received the second Johnson & Johnson (J&J) shipment will be on last Saturday.
The second batch included 525,600 doses, and the shipment is part of the authority’s plan to provide Egyptians with the required vaccine doses.
