On Thursday, Egypt continued to intensify the airlift scheduled to transport medical and humanitarian aid to Mali to help the country fight the spread of the novel coronavirus pandemic

According to a statement by the Egyptian Armed Forces, an Ilyushin military transport aircraft, loaded with large quantities of medical supplies, disinfections, medical face masks, protective suits and foodstuffs, headed to Mali to curb the repercussions of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic in the African country, as per President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi’s orders.

Since the outbreak of the virus, Egypt has sent shipments of medical supplies to a number of virus-stricken countries, including China, Italy and the United States.

Notably, Egypt has recently started to send medical aid to 30 African countries to help them fight the spread of the novel coronavirus pandemic.

The medical aid, which is worth four million U.S. dollars, is part of Egypt's contribution to the African Union COVID-19 Response Fund.

The aid batches have already been sent to 10 African countries. Procedures for sending aid to 20 other countries are underway.

The foreign ministry, in cooperation with other Egyptian ministries and bodies, has allocated a shipment of one and a half tons of medical aid for each African country.
