Egypt seeks the help of various "international expertise" to provide innovative solutions to the water shortage crisis, by holding the "Egypt Water, Waste and Infrastructure" exhibition, which includes many European institutions, unions and companies specialized in infrastructure and water technology.

Cairo suffers from a deficit in its water resources, as “needs are estimated at 114 billion cubic meters of water, while resources amount to 74 billion cubic meters,” according to the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation.

Cairo relies, by about 97 percent, on its share of the Nile, while anticipating a shortage in that share with Ethiopia approaching the full operation of the “Renaissance Dam”, which it is building on the main tributary of the Nile.
