Egypt's Ministry of Environment marks the observance of Earth Day 2022 today Friday April 22, under the theme “Invest In Our Planet” by encouraging people to visit national nature reserves.
Within the frame work of celebrating the Mother Nature Earth Day this year, the Ministry of Natural Resources is tasked with a crucial responsibility to develop, implement and oversee policies for the responsible sustainable environmental, development and utilization of the nation’s natural resources in tandem with the protection and conservation of the environment.
On this occasion, the Environment Minister Yasmine Fouad said during her visit to one of the national reserves, "The Egyptian government is working to encourage environmental protection and sustainable development."
Citing in particular the efforts of the state, she noted, "Efforts are under way to protect and manage nature reserves across the country."
Also in this regard, Fouad indicated that eco-friendly activities can contribute to saving nature; such activities are like rationalizing energy growing green and, planting plants and trees.
The day aims to raise awareness and create a global impact on environmental conservation. And it's theme for this year aims at improving the climate, as well as the planet’s health in every way possible.
It's worth mentioning that this special day is observed annually on April 22, focusing on improving humans’ behavior towards nature and creating global, national and local policies geared towards protecting wildlife and the environment, as well as promoting green practices in the context of earth and nature.
In 1969, the day was proposed at a UNESCO Conference in San Francisco by peace activist John McConnell to honor the Earth and the concept of peace. The first Earth Day was officially observed in 1970.
