In an important step towards combatting illegal immigration, Egypt has adopted a successful and effective policy in dealing with the issue of illegal immigration, according to the Ministry of Social Solidarity.

Lately, Egyptian authorities have decided to form a mini-technical committee to launch a training programme for Egyptian expatriates returning home.

On this basis, Egypt will develop a comprehensive reintegration programme for returned Illegal migrant workers and their families as well as an employment programme for returned Illegal migrant workers taking into account their skills obtained overseas, according to Minister Nevine El-Kabbaj.

During a meeting headed by the Minister of Social Solidarity Nevine El-Kabbaj on Thursday, she pointed out that NGOs are an essential partner for her ministry in implementing its programmes and achieving its mission. This takes place through creating incentives for voluntary return, to ensure the sustainability of return and integration in the labour market and in social life in general.

Furthermore, the Minister indicated that the cooperation with the EU in combating illegal immigration is among the files that should be managed in a way that serves the interests of both parties.

It also seeks new ways to re-integrate the Illegal migrant workers and facilitate their return to the community, working in social services or other community tasks.

In the same context, Egyptian authorities will also ensure the right of returned migrant workers to establish associations, participate in programmes affecting migrant workers to access services for returned migrant workers and their family members in accordance with the national laws, regulations and policies of the country.

While Combating Illegal Migration programmes and services have been set up in some of the middle east countries, Turkey hasn't reportedly established a comprehensive state policy or strategy on reintegration.

Egypt has succeeded in suspending the flow of illegal immigrants and controlling land and maritime borders, according to international reports.

On the other hand, the EU union has praised Egypt’s successful experience in controlling illegal immigration.

"Egypt has taken a certain position on irregular migration both by taking effective measures against irregular migration at the national level and by actively participating in most of the activities regarding the identification of the problems," the EU union indicated.
