Egypt Launches 'Bela Plastic' Initiative in Dahab

Chairman of Dahab Egypt Dr.Tarek El-Baz launched an initiative called 'Bela Plastic' (without plastic) to ban the use of plastic in the town.

The initiative started to add warning signs to urge people to ditch single-use plastic.

El-Baz said in a statement yesterday that plastic waste is a dangerous threat to marine life.

Egyptian Parliament Member Anissa Hassouna said that Egyptians consume 12 billion plastic bags per year, adding that plastic takes ages in  order to decompose. Burning plastics are not a safe solution due to the poisonous gases which harm the atmosphere.
