Korean Ambassador to Egypt, Kim Yonghyon met with Minister of Communication and Information Technology, Dr. Amr Talaat to discuss ways to enhance joint cooperation in the ICT sector between Korea and Egypt.
Ambassador Kim mentioned that Korea, an ICT powerhouse, has been actively cooperating with Egypt in the ICT sector including KOICA’s cooperation projects for digital transformation of the government services. He elaborated that KOICA, in partnership with Egyptian agencies, has been working on establishing digital platforms in the areas of government procurement, intellectual property rights and risk-based customs inspection.
He added that many more ICT cooperation projects are in the pipeline including establishing Korea-Egypt Digital Government Cooperation Center by which Korea's ICT experts will be dispatched to Egypt to conduct more close cooperation to help Egypt's digital transformation.
Ambassador Kim also shared with Minister Talaat the preparation status of the inaugural Korea-Africa Summit which will be held on June 4th-5th this year in Korea. He noted that cooperation on science and technology and digital transformation is one of the priority collaboration areas of the summit under the theme of 3 S’ : Shared Growth, Sustainability, and Solidarity.
Minister Talaat mentioned that he appreciates Korea's partnership with Egypt in the ICT sector, adding that he would like to enhance cooperation by exploring more areas of collaborations. The Minister also emphasized the importance of the private sector partnership, saying that he is pleased with the thriving bilateral cooperation in the private sector as many Korean ICT companies are actively operating in Egypt. He went on to say that the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology is ready to work with Korean partners to attract more investment to Egypt, including in the areas of electronic design, embedded software and AI.
Ambassador Kim and Minister Talaat agreed to work closely together to expand business opportunities in the ICT sector between the two countries.
