Egypt has increased its spending on health and education in the newly approved state budget for the fiscal year 2025/2026, according to Ahmed Kouchouk, Egypt’s Minister of Finance. The budget, approved by the Cabinet and submitted to Parliament, aims to enhance public services and improve citizens' quality of life.

In an statement, Kouchouk emphasized that the government has met the constitutional allocation requirements for health and education, reinforcing its commitment to human development investments. These sectors are considered essential pillars for achieving comprehensive and sustainable development and remain a top priority in the government’s agenda for building the Egyptian citizen.

The new budget includes several initiatives to improve citizens' living standards, particularly in healthcare. The government has allocated EGP 53.2 billion for medicines, medical supplies, raw materials, and maintenance of medical equipment.

Moreover, EGP 15.1 billion has been designated for state-funded medical treatment to ensure healthcare access for uninsured individuals. A further EGP 5.9 billion has been earmarked for universal health insurance, student health insurance, coverage for female breadwinners, and child healthcare, reflecting the government’s ongoing efforts to provide comprehensive medical care.

The Cabinet-approved budget estimates total revenues at approximately EGP 3.1 trillion, reflecting an annual growth rate of 19%, while expenditures are projected to reach EGP 4.6 trillion, marking an 18% increase. The government aims to achieve a primary budget surplus of 4% of GDP while working towards reducing public debt.

The budget now awaits approval by Parliament, where it will be reviewed and debated before final implementation.
