Egypt is one of the most popular tourist destinations world-wide. God endowed her with all kinds of archaeological, religious, natural, beach and cultural tourism, with a distinct geographical location in the middle of the three continents. The ancient Greek historian Herodotus said: "Egypt is the gift of the Nile".
Also, Cairo University has been the intellectual haven for all the people of the Arab and African region; it was an institution that instilled awareness and enlightenment for many leaders of these countries. So it is now on the path of restoring the place and position with its capabilities which enable it with all strength to enter into a new field to be added its tourism map, Enlightenment tourism and self-realization, which is educational tourism.
Tourism constitutes 10% of the national product and it is an important axis of development. Also, its role in promoting growth and creating job opportunities. Educational tourism is one of the best ways for development. Experts say that this kind of tourism can progress through establishing universities. Egypt, in 90’s, established four private universities in the 6 October city that based on the educational tourism concept in Egypt.
Strategy to activate educational tourism.
By receiving Arab students for education in all its faculties, it undoubtedly contributed to the revitalization the economic development of the city by creating opportunities to serve the educational tourism. It is worthy to note that Egypt established in the administrative capital and the new coastal cities some new universities to promote tourism in Egypt; they include the Canadian and the German International Applied.
Also, four universities are under construction. This strategy aims to activate educational tourism. The new universities such as King Salman International University in South Sinai, Al-Alamein International University in Matrouh, Galala University in Suez, and New Mansoura University, will play a role in placing these governorates on the scientific research map and on the way to development and urbanization.
These universities are non-profit established in partnership between a institutions group and NGOs as well as provides new educational programs and advanced educational materials that are concerned with the technological aspect and practical teaching in accordance with the international universities curricula.
There are statistics confirming that the total revenue generated by each expatriate student reaches to $ 15,000 annually, which makes the annual return of 90,000 expatriate students approximately $ 1.350 billion.
