Egypt confirmed new coronavirus case for an Egyptian citizen returning from abroad, the state's health ministry announced this afternoon.
On his part, Dr. Khaled Megahed, the official spokesperson for the Health Ministry, said that a 44-year-old Egyptian citizen, who was returning from Serbia after a 12-hour transit in France, has been diagnosed with coronavirus.
The spokesman added that the patient didn't show any symptoms for the virus when he returned back home, but after a few days he was hospitalized after suffering similar symptoms to coronavirus. He pointed out that the Egyptian citizen tested positive earlier today and he is being transferred to the quarantine hospital, which is designated to provide the necessary medical care.
He added that they have immediately informed the World Health Organization (WHO), confirming that all preventive measures have been taken to limit the outbreak of the deadly virus inside Egypt.
The coronavirus has claimed hundreds of lives among thousands of infections around the globe since December when it broke out in China where the virus originated.
Egypt has also taken strict precautionary measures such as conducting medical tests at the airports and entry ports, establishing necessary medical facilities, training the monitoring teams and all medical teams on how to safely deal with such cases, and providing a strategic stock of medical supplies.
Egypt has also launched a new website aimed to spread awareness among Egyptians about China-originated coronavirus that appeared in December 2019, the state’s cabinet media center reported on Monday.
Amid concerns related to Coronavirus, (WHO) raised awareness about the issue and its transmission methods.
