The Egyptian Health Ministry announced on Sunday it reported the first coronavirus death for a German national. He was 60.
Khaled Megahed, the ministry's spokesman, said that the German man, who arrived in Egypt from seven days, headed for Hurghada Hospital on Friday, March 6, after the virus symptoms had appeared.
On Saturday, the tests, conducted to the man, were positive. The case was moved to an intensive care unit at the hospital and refused to go to the isolation hospital because he suffered from respiratory failure due to acute pneumonia.
Immediately, the ministry, in cooperation with the World Health Organization (WHO), took the required protective measures and sterilized the hospital.
The ministry also contacted the German authorities to get more information about the dead man as he stayed seven days only in Egypt.
It is worth noting that Health Minister Hala Zayed said in a press conference on Saturday that there are 34 confirmed COVID-19 cases in Egypt.
