On Thursday, Egypt celebrates International Human Rights Day, which marks the 72nd anniversary of the adoption of the United Nations’ Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR).
Human Rights Day is observed every year on 10 December.
UDHR is a milestone document in the history of human rights. Egypt, thanks to its cultural and civilizational weight, has contributed to the drafting of the declaration and participated in its adoption in the United Nations General Assembly, within the framework of its active role in the international arena.
"Egypt affirmed that the development of international dealing with the human rights file is a multi-contribution path and the outcome of civilizational and cultural interactions of humanity in all its sects," Foreign Ministry said in a statement today. "This path is not restricted to a specific party or culture in itself."
The statement added that Egyptian diplomacy seeks during the current year to express national priorities and issues related to the interests of African and developing countries.
"A number of initiatives have been adopted in multilateral frameworks that address important issues such as terrorism, human rights, the right to work, empowerment and promotion of women's rights," the statement read.
Moreover, the ministry added that Egypt has spared no effort in supporting the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people and supporting international resolutions aimed at promoting coexistence, rejecting discrimination, and combating racism.
The statement added that Egypt has taken very important steps towards improving the human rights situation at the national level, as the Senate has been elected, and the parliamentary elections are being finalized.
"Regarding religious freedoms, efforts continued during the current year to strengthen religious freedoms and consolidating the achievements made in this field," the statement confirmed.
The statement added that Egypt is proceeding with serious and confident steps towards ensuring the promotion of the inherent human dignity of all its people, in line with constitution provisions.
