On Sunday, the Egyptian Drug Authority (EDA) approved the Covishield-AstraZeneca vaccine for emergency use as the second approved COVID-19 vaccine in Egypt after the Chinese Sinopharm.
Covishield- AstraZeneca is the Indian manufactured version of Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine, which is produced by the Serum Institute of India, the world's largest vaccine manufacturer.
The authority expressed in a statement that the vaccine is safe and effective.
This morning, Egypt received 50,000 doses of Oxford-AstraZeneca coronavirus vaccine.
The shipment is part of 20 million doses contracted through The Egyptian Authority for Unified Procurement, Medical Supply and Technology Management ( AUPP).
According to the Ministry of Health and Population, the vaccine will be stored at the Ministry of Health’s stores, ahead of vaccinating the first groups according to priority, including medical front-liners, and patients suffering from chronic diseases as well as elderly.
