Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty held a phone call on Tuesday with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov to address the growing military escalation between Israel and Iran.

The call, made under directives from President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, focused on the urgent need to reduce tensions and prevent further regional destabilization. Both ministers stressed that a political and diplomatic solution is the only path forward and warned against the dangers of expanding conflict.

They also discussed ways to strengthen bilateral ties, particularly in economic and investment sectors, and agreed to continue coordination through high-level visits and communication.

Lavrov welcomed a joint statement issued on June 16 by 23 Arab and Islamic countries, led by Egypt, calling for a ceasefire and a return to negotiations over Iran’s nuclear program. The two sides also reviewed their recent contacts with officials in the region and the United States aimed at containing the crisis.
