Drought  Threatens Italy with  Water  Crisis during   Summer

The Italian newspaper “The Giornale” said that Italy is facing a water crisis due to a drought that threatens the country.

The Italian authorities warned of a shortage in water resources and demanded from 100 municipalities across the country to reduce water use at night, in order to allow the levels of filling tanks, due to the scarcity of water resources and the lack of precipitation accompanied by rising temperatures" in the country.

The current drought conditions sweeping northern Italy can be traced back to a negative mix of all measurable hydro, meteorological and climatic indicators.

However, the lack of winter precipitation was the direct limiting factor  due to the lack of  rainfall for more than 100 days,

Last March, the water deficit was recorded -at -92% so the result was that the Po River reached its historic lowest flood level a month ago.

The water level in the river dropped by 2.7 meters compared to the zero hydrometric low recorded in mid-August 2021.
