Dr. Mahmoud Mohieldin, UN Climate Change High Level Champion for Egypt and UN Special Envoy on Financing 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda, said that COP27 will focus on the actual implementation of climate pledges through mobilizing the required financing and setting specific time frameworks for the implementation process.
In a phone-in on "Asharq" TV channel Thursday, Mohieldin added that Egypt focused since it was declared as the next host and president of COP on pushing towards implementing climate action not only at the level of countries but also at the level of companies and all entities that contribute in a way or another to harmful emissions.
Mohieldin also spoke about the energy crisis and noted that at the time when some countries resorted to using dirty sources of energy such as fossil fuels, other countries showed big interest in investing in new and renewable energy sources such as solar, wind, and green hydrogen.
He emphasized that COP27 will call for adopting a holistic approach for climate action that focuses on financing and implementing adaptation measures equally as mitigation ones, discussing losses and damages resulting from climate change as well as mobilizing sufficient finance for climate action either from public or private sources.
Mohieldin added that COP27 will witness a distinct participation of leaders from Europe, Asia, African and Arab leaders considering that the conference is an international event that is organized on African and Arab land.
