Mona Omar, the former Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs for African Affairs, stressed Friday that Egypt still needs to boost relations with Sudan.
She said that "We must take into account that the bilateral relations went through a tough period as a result of the former Sudanese regime under the leadership of Omar Al-Bashir."
During her interview on the "Extra News" channel, Omar added that "Bashir was following a stubborn and hostile stance towards Egypt," noting "He was deliberately allying with the enemies of Egypt."
Moreover, she pointed out that building a true partnership should be accomplished at various levels; most notably building trust between the two peoples, which is the role of civil society through women's gatherings, stressing the need for an alliance of Egyptian and Sudanese women.
The Egyptian diplomat affirmed the significance of the young generations' role, pointing out to the educational and scientific cooperation between Cairo and Khartoum.
