Total COVID-19 cases in Japan surpassed a million cases due to the wide outbreak of Delta variant, authorities announced on Friday.
The capital, Tokyo, reported new 4515 new infections which rose various concerns over the ability of the medical system to compete against the virus.
In addition, the city recorded 5042 new cases on Thursday which is considered the highest recorded daily infections number since the beginning of the pandemic.
Although Tokyo is still under a state of emergency, the spread of the Delta variant is still strong and fast.
In the same context, Sputnik reported on Friday that the new mutated version of the virus, Lambda, was detected in a passenger who came from the US. Therefore, the patient was quarantined and banned from entering the state.
