Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell led a delegation of Congressional legislators on a surprise trip to Ukraine where they met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky Saturday night in Kyiv to discuss the massive $40 billion aid package that the United States (US) is working to pass.
After leaving Ukraine, McConnell said in a statement that the congressional delegation witnessed "the courage, unity, and determination of the Ukrainian people asking only the tools they need for self-defense."
The statement said that the visit of the group of senators shows the strength of relations between the United States and Ukraine. McConnell said the delegation "reaffirmed to President Zelensky that the United States stands directly behind Ukraine, and the United States will continue to support Ukraine until Ukraine wins this war."
