The UN Climate Change Conference of Youth (COY) recently concluded its 7th edition, accomplishing exceptional success by gathering UN and governmental officials with outstanding youth leaders locally, regionally, and internationally.

The conference exhibited inspiring expertise, allowing attendees, from students and young change makers to UN experts, to exchange experiences.

COY 17 was held in Sharm El-Sheikh from the 3rd to the 5th of November, with the aim of serving as a space for capacity building and policy training in order to prepare young people for their participation in COP.

The closing event feature appearance by the Youth and Sports Ministry Ashraf Sobhi, United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) Representative Frederica Meyer and UNICEF Representative Jeremy Hopkins.

Speaking to the attendees of COY 17, Ms. Frederica Meyer, Representative of the United Nations Population Fund, said, “We as co-leading the UN youth task force will give you all the needed support in continuing the journey to COP 27 and beyond to continue your meaningful engagement as the present and future inheritors of our planet.”

“UNFPA has been working with the Egyptian government to put women and girls at the heart of climate actions and also help youth reach their full potential," she noted.

Meanwhile, Mr. Hopkins said that the world needs the voices of children and young people to speak out for our future, adding: "COY 17, is a great opportunity where young people from across the globe are meeting in Egypt to inspire and galvanize world leaders to take bold action on climate change."

On his part,  Sobhi hailed joint co-operation and efforts with UN representatives in Egypt in the file of empowering young people for the labor market and honing their skills.

It's worth mentioning that COY officially launched in 2005 in Montreal ahead of COP11 to make youth voices heard.
