Coventry City have secured promotion to the Premier League for the 2026–2027 season, marking their return to the top flight after 25 years.
The achievement was confirmed on Friday after a 1-1 draw against Blackburn Rovers in Round 43 of the Championship.
A late equalizer in the 84th minute from Bobby Thomas sealed the crucial point that ensured promotion with three matches still remaining in the season.
Managed by Frank Lampard, Coventry’s return represents a remarkable turnaround. The club had endured difficult years, including dropping as low as the third tier, before climbing back to the Championship in 2020 and continuing their rise.
This promotion also marks Lampard’s third experience as a manager in the Premier League, following previous spells with Chelsea and Everton.
He will now aim to establish Coventry as a competitive side in England’s top division.
The return of Coventry City to the Premier League stands as one of the most inspiring stories of the season, highlighting persistence and long-term rebuilding success.
