The 27th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP27), which officially started its work on Sunday in the Egyptian city of Sharm El Sheikh, will host 62,000 participants, according to Egyptian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ahmed Abu Zeid on Monday.
"There will be 62,000 people coming to Sharm El Sheikh to participate in the SOP-27," the Egyptian Foreign Ministry spokesman pointed out.
"This is the largest number of representatives of different countries registered at such international forums held under the UN auspices."
According to Abu Zeid, the record number of COP27 participants "confirms the degree of importance and concern for climate change issues and related problems."
The UN Climate Conference officially began its work on Sunday.
During the current forum, which will run until November 18, hundreds of events related to the COP27 agenda will be held in Sharm El Sheikh.
The most important of them will be the meeting of world leaders on November 7 and 8, where heads of states and governments will deliver “national speeches” presenting their countries’ positions and visions on current environmental problems, resource provision, food supplies, protection from natural disasters, green energy, and financial support for the poorest countries for prevention programs weather changes.
According to the organizing committee of COP27, leaders from 110 countries will attend the conference in Sharm El-Sheikh. The summit will be covered by more than 3,000 journalists.
