Local officials in the eastern province of Kasai, in central Democratic Congo, confirmed that torrential rains caused the destruction of at least 40 homes in the Chilinge region of the province.
According to local newspapers, today, Monday, local officials indicated that the destruction of these homes as a result of the heavy rains that fell last Thursday, caused more than 100 people to become homeless.
They added that the rain caused serious damage to some health centers and led to the collapse of the roofs of five schools.
Other local sources reported that the heavy rains led to the overflow of streams and rivers in the area, which prevented farmers from reaching their fields.
