Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Wang Wenbin said on Thursday that the US, as a major state, should uphold its promises and acknowledge historical facts.
Wang shared an old video on Facebook of former US President Jimmy Carter recognizing the People's Republic of China and Taiwan as part of its territory.
He captioned the video with the statement, "Major countries should keep their promise and honor history and facts."
Wang also emphasized at a press conference that the Taiwan question is a core interest of China and should not be meddled with. He warned relevant parties, specifically the Philippines, to tread carefully and avoid provoking China on this issue to prevent any negative consequences.
