China successfully landed a rover on the surface of Mars for the first time ever, state-owned media agencies reported on Saturday.
Named Zhurong, the robot targeted a certain area on the red planet surface for conducting its mission which is Utopia Planitia.
This landing is a remarkable success to China in the field of space as only American space agencies landed objects on Mars
Chinese President Xi Jinping sent a special message of appreciation to the mission's team described the occasion as an "outstanding achievement."
"You were brave enough for the challenge, pursued excellence and placed our country in the advanced ranks of planetary exploration," the President added.
Reached Mars surface early Saturday morning, it took 17 minutes till it started sending signals to the Earth.
Zhurong succeeded in capturing high-resolution photos for the spot it landed on.
Two months ago, NASA managed in releasing the first audio clip recorded on Mars, the recording carried the sounds of Martian winds and the moving wheels of the probe.
