The Chinese authorities have warned of successive waves of COVID-19 infection in the coming months, at a time when cases continue to rise after the lifting of strict restrictions earlier this month.
It seems that residents of major cities do not leave their homes, either because they are infected with the virus, or for fear of infection.
But the Chinese authorities have continued to “open facilities” and ease restrictions, according to a report by the British Guardian newspaper.
There are also several questions about the full impact of the current outbreak, with three COVID-19 deaths officially announced despite widespread reports of fatalities and overcrowded burials.
Wu Zunyu, the chief epidemiologist at the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention, said that China experienced the first of three expected waves of Covid cases this winter.
Zunyu said, at a press conference in Beijing, that the current virus outbreak will reach its peak this winter, and that it will continue in three waves over three months.
