Cher Biopic in Works at Universal Pictures

Universal Pictures is developing a biopic around the life and career of the "Goddess of Pop" Cher.

The superstar made the announcement Wednesday on Twitter, on the eve of her 75th birthday.

She added that her friends Judy Craymer and Gary Goetzman will produce the biopic, who had also produce "Mamma Mia!".

The trio had collaborated with Cher on the Mamma Mia! sequel, "Here We Go Again".

The untitled film will be scripted by Oscar-winning screenwriter Eric Roth, who co-wrote the upcoming epic movie "Dune" and recently penned the script for Martin Scorsese’s "Killers of the Flower Moon", which will star Leonardo DiCaprio and Robert De Niro.

Roth is known for many outstanding movies such as "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button", "Forrest Gump", "A Star is Born", and "Mank".

The singer is often referred to by the media as the "Goddess of Pop". She rose to stardom in 1965 as one-half of the folk-rock husband-wife duo, Sonny and Cher, after their song "I Got You Babe". She began her solo career in 1966 and evolved from being a shy duo partner to a pioneer for female entertainers in song, fashion, and celebrity.

She adopted a variety of styles and appearances throughout her six-decade-long career. Her professional rise began when she moved to Los Angeles at 16 and befriended Sonny Bono while he was working for record producer Phil Spector in the early ’60s.
