Charlie Hebdo magazine faced widespread criticism for publishing a cartoon of Queen Elizabeth kneeling on the neck of Meghan Markle, Duchess of Sussex, in a simulation of the killing of George Floyd at the hands of the US police.

The Independent reported that the cartoon titled: "Why did Megan leave Buckingham Palace?".

The cartoon comes after the Duchess of Sussex, and Prince Harry, spoke in an interview with Oprah Winfrey of apparent racism within the royal family.

George Floyd died at the hands of the police, an incident, which ignited international protests against police violence and racism in the United States.
