Celebrities Worldwide Who Showed Solidarity with Palestine

In the wake of the violent attacks by Israeli forces on Palestinians that have erupted in the past week, celebrities around the world have voiced their concern and support for Palestinians.

Footballers, singers, actors and many more across the world have joined a chorus of people speaking out amid an escalation of violence against Palestinians.

The Hadid Family

Supermodel Gigi Hadid, whose family are Palestinian, is furious with the people who remain silent in the face of the oppression of Palestinians by Israel. “You cannot pick and choose whose human rights matter more,” she said.” Gigi wrote. “It does not add up.”

In addition to Gigi, her sister Bella expressed her frustration as unacceptable violence has followed the threatened eviction of Palestinian families from the Jerusalem neighborhood.

“This is not about religion. This is not about spewing hate on one or the other. This is about Israeli colonisation, ethnic cleansing, military occupation and apartheid over the Palestinian people that has been going on for YEARS!”

“I stand with my Palestinian brothers and sisters, I will protect and support you as best as I can. I LOVE YOU,” she said.

Bella has been sharing some of the same posts to her own Instagram stories this week, such as the work of an artist with the quote: "You Will Not Erase Palestine."

She also reposted a story that their older sister, Alana Hadid, shared on her own Instagram

"My sisters and I, we speak in a family group chat every day. Mostly about Palestine and all that goes on. It is so hard to put into words how I feel," Bella added to her sister's Story.

Rihanna

Barbadian singer and actress Rihanna did not totally take specific side, claiming that she stands with "humanity." However, she stressed that "this cycle needs to be broken."

Rihanna shared her mixed thoughts on Instagram. “My heart is breaking with the violence I’m seeing displayed between Israel and Palestine. I can’t bear to see it! Innocent Israeli and Palestinian children are hiding in bomb shelters…”

The singer was criticized on social media for equivocating the suffering of Israelis and Palestinians.

“Hey Rihanna, Palestinians don’t have bomb shelters - we don’t have any protection. There is no shelter,” writer Jennine Khalik responded.

Dua Lipa

Singer Dua Lipa posted Instagram stories with #SaveSheikhJarrah along with artwork from designer duo Mothanna Hussein and Hadi Alaeddin.

Lipa also shared a screen shot of US Senator Bernie Sanders calling for the US government to "speak out strongly against the violence by government-allied Israeli extremists in East Jerusalem and the West Bank, and make clear that the evictions of Palestinian families must not go forward."

The Weeknd

Canadian musician Abel Makkonen Tesfaye, better known as The Weeknd, shared on his Instagram account several posts critical of the planned eviction of Palestinians from lands claimed by Israeli settlers in East Jerusalem.The Weeknd

The posts the Weeknd has shared on his Instagram story included a protest painting by a U.S.-based Palestinian artist named Shirien showing a group of people holding signs that read "No More Ethnic Cleansing" and "Palestinians Will Remain".

Avengers star Mark Ruffalo also tweeted in support of Palestinians, saying that 1,500 face expulsion in Jerusalem.

Halsey

American singer and songwriter Ashley Nicolette Frangipane, known professionally as Halsey, voiced solidarity with Palestinians in a tweet with caption #freepalestine.

DJ Khaled

Palestinian-American producer DJ Khaled was briefly denounced on social media for not speaking out. However, he followed up by posting a picture of Al-Aqsa, with the message: “Sending love and light and prayers to my Palestinian brothers and sisters.”

Although being half Israeli, American actress Natalie Portman received praise after sharing fellow actor Davis’s Instagram post, supporting the Palestinians.

In 2018, Portman pulled out of an award ceremony in Israel over concerns about the Israeli government.

Oscar-winning actress Viola Davis, who posted “Let’s talk about what’s going on in Sheikh Jarrah”, accompanied by 10 images explaining the context of the potential evictions.

Davis garnered particular praise for posting to her main feed, and not to her story (which deletes after 24 hours).

Game of Thrones star Lena Headey put up a post in support of Palestinians with the text “Save Sheikh Jarrah”.

Headey shared her thoughts on her in Instagram post " A mothers last call", in which she said: "Don't let another mother witness the pain, please don't place a single drop of blood of her child upon her."

Liverpool player Mohamed Salah took to Twitter, calling on British prime Minister Boris Johnson and world leaders "to make sure the violence and killing of innocent people stops immediately."

Paul Pogba

Manchester United's French star Paul Pogba voiced his full support of the Palestinian people in a post on social media.

Hazal Kaya

Turkish actress Hazal Kaya expressed full support for Palestine, as she keeps retweeting posts that call for an end to this Israeli attacks.

Kaya retweeted a post by Bernie Sanders as he said: "Palestinian children should not have to grow up under the constant violence and oppression of occupation, as so many do, and have done."

Burak Özdemir

Turkish chef Burak Özdemir has condemned Israel's aggression against Palestinians, as dozens have been killed till date in air strikes on Gaza.

Özdemir could be seen making a sad face in his latest video — showing solidarity as he lamented over the situation in Palestine.

"It's like this today," he said sharing a video on Twitter with a sad emoji.
