Carob, also known as Kharoub, is a traditional Egyptian drink mostly prepared during the holy month of Ramadan.
Beside its savory taste and sweet smell, it has so many health benefits.
Some of these benefits are boosting the body’s immune system, treating stomach ulcers in addition to working as cough suppressant. Here’s the recipe
Ingredients
½ kilo Carob, cut into small pieces
½ kilo sugar
¼ cup water
4 liters water
Recipe
Wash Carob well, then in a pan set on a medium heat, add sugar and ¼ cup of water till they tuned into golden brown caramel.
It's important not to stir sugar using spoon, however shake the pan only with your hands.
Add Carob, 2 liters of water to the pan and set till they boil.
After that, cover the pan and set for half an hour.
Turn off the heat and strain the mixture in a bowl, then add the other 2 liters of water.
Add sugar as desired, then chill and serve!
