The Colombian police are currently investigating death threats against midfielder Carlos Sanchez after his red card in their 2-1 defeat at the hands of Japan.

The former Aston Villa player was sent off for stopping a ball heading towards an empty goal after it the Keeper failed to stop it.

The Judicial branch of the Colombian police have assigned a special team to investigate the threats made to Sanchez، who is suspended from playing Sunday's match against Poland.

Should Colombia lose they would suffer an early exit from the World Cup.

Spectators are comparing this incident with the one involving  Andres Escobar's infamous own goal at the 1994 World Cup. Escobar was shot dead when he returned home from the campaign after his goal led to Colombia's elimination.
