Egypt’s population reached 102 million people, Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) said on Monday.
CAPMAS pointed out that the population increased by one million people during the past nine months.
This comes despite the increase in death rates, as the number of deaths increased by 15% on an annual basis in the first six months of this year to reach 383.7 thousand cases.
In addition, the deaths caused by coronavirus pandemic reached about 16,2 thousand cases currently. This figure is about 31% higher than that recorded during the same period in 2019.
Meanwhile, the birth rates decreased by 8.9% year-on-year during the period.
Egypt's population growth rate is among the fastest in the world. The government's estimates indicate that the country's population will exceed 130 million by 2030.
On the other hand, the United Nations' estimates predict that the number of Egyptians will reach 160 million by mid-century.
