Egypt head into their highly anticipated Africa Cup of Nations semi-final against Senegal with attacking responsibility once again resting on the shoulders of Mohamed Salah and Omar Marmoush. The duo are expected to spearhead the Pharaohs’ frontline as they chase a place in the final of the tournament currently being held in Morocco.
Head coach Hossam Hassan has decided to maintain confidence in the Salah–Marmoush partnership after its strong performances in recent matches, most notably in the quarter-final victory over Ivory Coast national football team. Both players were on the scoresheet in Egypt’s dramatic 3–2 win, a result that secured progression to the last four.
Egypt are set for a heavyweight showdown against Senegal national football team, with the semi-final scheduled for Wednesday evening at the Ibn Batouta Stadium in Tangier. Kick-off is at 7:00 pm local time, with a place in the final at stake.
The match marks Egypt’s first appearance in Tangier during the tournament. All previous matches were played in Agadir, where the Pharaohs faced Zimbabwe, South Africa, and Angola in the group stage, before defeating Benin in the round of 16 and Ivory Coast in the quarter-finals.
The Egyptian squad is set to travel to Tangier on Monday to begin preparations for the semi-final encounter. With Senegal regarded as one of the tournament’s strongest sides, Egypt will rely heavily on the experience, pace, and finishing ability of Salah and Marmoush to break down the Teranga Lions’ defense.
