Callum Newman made history by capturing the IWGP Heavyweight Championship at Sakura Genesis 2026 on April 4, defeating defending champion Yota Tsuji in a chaotic and hard-fought main event at Ryogoku Sumo Hall.
Fresh off his New Japan Cup triumph, Newman entered the bout with momentum and ambition, aiming to become the youngest champion in the title’s history.
Tsuji, however, controlled the early stages, targeting the challenger’s midsection with punishing kicks and a backbreaker.
Newman responded with speed and resilience, sweeping the champion off his feet and delivering a sharp punt kick to the ribs.
